i have been tagged

and if you are reading this ... standby because you will be tagged soon, too. (sorry donna, but i think you are the only one that qualifies that statement. just a heads up.)

this venture of taggedness (i just made that up) requires one to spill his/her guts on 5 things that others will probably not know about the author. i am adding onto to the original task by stating that you need to post your results in a comment of the person that tagged you, as well as making a new post on your site. well ... here goes:

1. i'm thinking ... still thinking, hold on ... when it comes to playing board games and such i like to know all the rules before we begin. this is an annoyance to those that i play with, because i will call them on the rules during the game, and they sometimes just stop playing right there, or will never play with me again. i'm not rude about it, but hey ... rules are rules!

2. i used to be deathly afraid to read scripture, or pray in public. (i put that in there because now i love it!)

3. i was born in izmir, turkey. i had to be naturalized when i was 6 (i think?), and i chose the u.s. as the country i wanted to be a citizen of. go figure?

4. i claim alabama as my home state, but had never lived here until i was in my late 30's. also, like jd, i hate greens, but unlike what jd confessed i dislike tomatoes, any melon fruit, or tea (iced, hot, or sweet). i have been told that i am not a real southern.

5. my first car was a '78 ford fiesta. no forget that one. i need something better for my final and 5th thing ... hm ... hhhhmmmm ... i've lived in 12 different places in my life time, and i was baptized in balboa, panama, at balboa church of Christ when i was 11. (those 12 places are turkey, texas [first time], panama, south carolina [first time], illinois, tennessee [first time], florida, south carolina [second time], tennessee [second time], japan, texas [second time], and now alabama.)

now i get to pick 5 people to tag. this ought to be fun. the winners are:

danny simms
donna
greg
soren
my sister in-law

we'll see who actually follows through. this was really fun. it made me think of myself and how introverted i am ... HA!

I was born across the street from The Fabulous Forum where the Los Angeles Lakers used to play basketball. Today The Forum is home to a prosperity-Gospel mega church.

I taught my wife’s section of college freshman speech class, when I was a graduate assistant. We did not date until 3 years later when I went to her hometown church to work as a minister, a suburb of Houston called Tomball. That’s where we married and had our two kids.

I had a regular non-paid gig on a local radio station when in college. We did a five minutes sports segment called “Kenny McGraw on Sports.” I was Kenny and my good friend Byron Harrell would do spoof interviews with me. We’d lampoon anyone and everyone and I’d usually toss on real names of college buddies who were doing intramural stuff back on campus. It was actually a very highly rated segment. The only compensation was that, at my bachelor party, Byron gave me a massive stack of promo CD’s he’d gotten at the radio station.

I once met with and had a brief conversation with President George W. Bush. We spoke for a few moments and then he turned around and came back to me and asked me a question and we talked some more. After that a CNN reporter asked me, “What’s the nature of your relationship with the President?” Of course I told them we did not have a relationship but that we were just visiting. Just a few weeks later we were at war in Iraq.

And finally, I was badly burned on my head in a freak accident as a child. A flying patch of debris barely missed my right eye. I could’ve been a pirate.

Five things you don’t know about me……
{this is hard when you once did a post of 100 things about me….}

1. I have lived on a lake for almost 12 years and I never go fishing. I think it goes back to my childhood. When I was in girl scouts we went fishing at a local lake. One of the girls had left her line lying on the ground somehow I tripped on it and her hook ended up in my leg. I have never had much desire to be around those pesky little hooks since.
2. When I went to Germany to visit my little brother we were there at the right time to go to the Holland Tulip festival. To get there we got to drive on an open road race course. It was awesome and surprising to get to see all of that. One other side trip we made was to Luxemburg. We kind of accidentally found the sight of Patton’s grave. That was another cool thing from that trip.
3. When I was 18 I was working in a Pizza place over the summer. Working there created the only time that I have ever called in sick to work when I was not really sick. David and I were spending the weekend at the lake with another couple. They begged me not to go to work that Saturday night. So I called in and said I had hurt my back skiing. The guilt was so heavy that when I did go back I put in my notice. Whew! Feels good to confess that!
4. David and I used to bowl in a mixed bowling league. I carried an average of around 145. I guess I was a fairly decent bowler. Again, when Derek started playing sports we found that we didn’t have time to keep up the bowling.
5. During my Biology class in 10th grade, the boys would take a dip of Skoal and stand in the window to spit. They were even known to crawl out the window to skip class. All of this was known to the teacher. However, the one time we had a little snow in Alabama (a rare occurrence) I was standing up at the window to look out at the snow. I got a paddling from this teacher….for looking at snow. Talk about your dual standards……this man is now a Judge in our fair city. I have told him on several occasions that I have never quite forgiven him. On some levels that may be true.

There you go….not very interesting. If you still want to know more about me go back and read the 100 things about me….if you need a sleeping aid that is.
